For those counting (I sure am) this is my fourth time zone this week. Though I’ll be in this time zone for at least a week, so hopefully I’ll have some time to catch up with myself here. So, I’m in Thunder Bay, in a hotel room instead of a hostel (which is a bitContinueContinue reading “Another day, another time zone”

Winnipeg in a day
I’m really glad Winnipeg is flat. I mean, I knew the prairies would be flat. But what I didn’t fully conceptualize is that Winnipeg is the flattest. I mean, eastern Alberta is kinda flat, Saskatchewan is flatish, but the area of Manitoba around Winnipeg? It’s really, really flat. This is a good thing because IContinueContinue reading “Winnipeg in a day”
To the heart of the continent
Not much to report today. I drove from Regina to Winnipeg. I swear Manitoba (or at least the area around Winnipeg) is flatter than Saskatchewan. I realized that the audiobook series I’m listening to keep sane while driving is not a complete trilogy yet and was briefly cursing the name of the person who recommendedContinueContinue reading “To the heart of the continent”
Queen City and Little Chicago
My overly helpful iPhone informs me I walked 8.41 kilometres today. My feet respectfully disagree. But, despite my moaning feet, I have found myself pleasantly surprised by Regina, SK. I don’t know what I was expecting. But a lovely city apparently wasn’t it. I also was surprised by Moose Jaw, SK’s apparently thriving Main Street. Which moreContinueContinue reading “Queen City and Little Chicago”
The spice must flow!
It was somewhere on the very eastern edges of Alberta – or maybe the very western edges of Saskatchewan – that the reality of what I’m doing really sunk in. I was totally alone on the highway. Farmland, in hues of canola yellow, lush green, light green and nearly white were around me as farContinueContinue reading “The spice must flow!”
On the Roch
It’s Canada Day. I suppose I should have taken some more time to reflect on this country – what I love and what I think needs improvement – given that my main task this summer is to drive from the west coast of this nation to the east coast. But I didn’t. Instead, I spentContinueContinue reading “On the Roch”
Auspicious beginnings (not)
Yesterday, I left Edmonton, somewhat unceremoniously, for what will work out to be roughly two months of travelling across Canada (and back!) by car. It was a grey day, but I can’t resent the rain too much when it is so badly needed. Well, I resented the rain that forced me off the road forContinueContinue reading “Auspicious beginnings (not)”
