There and now I’m back again

I arrived back home in Edmonton on Friday afternoon. I’ve been spending time with my husband and my felines and taking care of all the tasks that pile up when you take off for nearly eight weeks (for example, “important tasks” like re-watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off).

The Hermetic Code tour of the Manitoba legislature was fascinating.

My road trip by the numbers

20,000 kilometres

54 days

10 provincial capitals

180 hours of audiobooks played

5 ferry rides

11 books read

2 breweries

8 national parks

11 national historic sites

6 U.S. states

3 musicals

9 museums

7 art galleries

2 aquariums

1 planetarium

It was a really incredible trip and I’m so very aware I’ve been lucky to have the opportunity to take such a voyage.

The last couple days of my trip included a brief stop in Winnipeg, which was of course the second time I’d been there on this little jaunt across Canada. I got to go on the Hermetic Code tour of the Manitoba legislature which was simply one of the best tours I went on this whole trip. I got the book if anyone’s curious. I was very impressed with the research and enthusiasm for the topic. It took a few days to get from Chicago to Edmonton, and I discovered that the last 100 kilometres of a 20,000 kilometre journey are by far the longest.

And, of course, that home is where your cats are. Which I guess I already knew. But they haven’t wasted any time reminding me of their superior rank in our household chain of command.

I have a couple more posts on the trip I’ll be making, but to sum up: from sea to shining sea, this country is worth seeing if you ever have the chance. Or at least the 10 provinces are. I’ll have to get back to you about the territories (new goal!).

It's been a long-time dream to drive across the country and the timing was right. I live in Edmonton, Alberta when I'm not being an itinerant road-tripper.
